The Sony Alpha a7CR Mirrorless Digital Camera is a full-frame, compact-size camera that features a 61MP full-frame Back-Illuminated Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor with the latest BIONZ XR Image Processor.
Delivering exceptionally high image quality with improved colour reproduction and evolved subject recognition performance. The Sony Alpha a7C R Mirrorless Digital Camera features high resolution 4K 60p, 10bit 4:2:2, S-Log, S-Cinetone, and M-LUT.
61MP Exmor R CMOS Sensor and BIONZ XR Processor
The all-new Sony Alpha a7CR Mirrorless Digital Camera features an advanced imaging system with a notable 61MP Full-Frame R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor, all these work together to create a combination of high resolution with low noise, high clarity, and a wide 15-stop dynamic range. In terms of shooting speeds, the sensor and processor enable up to 8 fps shooting with the mechanical shutter and 7 fps with the electronic shutter at full resolution with full-time AF/AE.
More than 1000 frames can be recorded in a single burst when shooting in burst. The sensor structure gives notable image quality, while a copper wiring layer dramatically improves data transmission speed for creating 14-bit, high-resolution 61MP stills with a native sensitivity range from ISO 100-32000, which can be further expanded to ISO 50-102400.
Improved Processing Engine
The all-new redesigned BIONZ XR processing engine offers you up to 8x the performance compared to the previous generations. This improves the overall performance, image quality, AF, and AI processing.
The processor in the Sony A7c R furthermore assists in reducing rolling shutter and other motion distortions for clean rendering of moving subjects.
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting
The Sony Alpha a7CR Mirrorless Digital Camera features a compositing mode, which allows you to achieve even greater resolution than the 61MP sensor affords. Working in conjunction with the sensor-shift image stabilization, this mode shifts the sensor while making 16 consecutive exposures in order to acquire approximately 240.8MP of information for greater color accuracy and detail than possible with a single exposure, along with an impressive image size of 19,008 x 12,672-pixels.
In post, these files can be merged to the in Sony's Imaging Suite.
Image Stabilization
The new Sony A7C-R offers seven stops of shake compensation, the pixel-level 5-axis optical image stabilization system is designed to counter 5 types of camera shake normally encountered during handheld use for stills and video. Furthermore, the AI Processing Unit is designed to improve communication between the camera body and lens providing stable framing before the shot is taken.
AI Processing Unit
With dedicated AI processing, the autofocus capabilities are greatly increased with the more intelligent subject tracking and recognition capabilities in the Sony A7C R:
- Human
- Animal, Bird, and Animal/Brid
- Insect Recognition
- Car/Train and Airplane Recognition
The impressive real-time tracking built into the A7-R benefits from AI-based subject recognition, which makes it particularly well-suited for sports and fast-moving subjects. Human pose estimation also distinguishes and singles out the main subject between multiple people in the frame while keeping focus on the key person.
Advanced Fast Hybrid AF
The hybrid AF system in the Sony Alpha a7CR Mirrorless Digital Camera covers 79% of the full-frame image area or 100% of the APS-C cropped area, a Fast Hybrid AF system incorporates a dense 693 phase-detection point grid for quick and precise focusing in a variety of lighting conditions with sensitivity down to -4 EV. This system is available in both all video and still modes.
The Autofocus system a capable of keeping up with up to 10 fps continuous sooting speeds, while still maintaining full AF tracking between each frames. In-camera focus bracketing is possible, with the ability to record up to 299 frames with sequentially shifted focus points for creating composite images during post-production with a greater-than-possible depth of field.
AF During Video Recording
Real-Time Eye AF is supported during video recording for tracking of human, animal, and bird eyes while shooting. AF Assist lets you intuitively switch over to manual focus control for adjusting focus position when working with AF. This is a quick way to shift selective focus between various subjects in a scene while recording.
Video Recording
- Record full frame, 60 fps 4K video in 10-bit 4:2:2 using the advanced XAVC S-I format for consistent performance and quality at bitrates up to 600 Mb/s, and, if recording externally via the full-size HDMI port, 16-bit raw output can be used for even greater tonal reproduction and post-production flexibility.
- If using a Super 35 crop, full pixel readout recording is possible at up to UHD 4K at frame rates up to 30p or 6.2K oversampling can be used for greater sharpness and detail.
- Raw output is supported at up to 4K 60p and simultaneous internal 4K recording is possible, too.
- If recording in Full HD, high-speed, 120 fps recording enables 4x and 5x slow-motion movie recording with the frame rate playback set to either 30p or 24p.
- The S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine Gamma Curves allow for more than 15 stops of dynamic range and for increased post-production flexibility, including matching video from other Sony Cinema Line cameras.
- S-Cinetone can be used to deliver distinct colors and healthy-looking skin tone rendering that is based on technology from Sonys' professional Cinema Line cameras, such as the VENICE. This color profile offers natural mid-tones, soft colors, and especially well-controlled highlights.
- Creative Looks can be baked into the recorded footage to create a specific mood during recording and minimize the need for editing.
- User-created LUTs and presets can be set for accurately monitoring footage or previewing a specific look during shooting and can be applied to the camera's monitor, EVF, or HDMI output.
Body Design and Connectivity
The Sony Alpha a7C R Mirrorless Digital Camera features an added front command dial for added control and speed to your fingertips. Use the camera's USB output function with UVC/UAC control via a computer for streaming applications and broadcasts with built-in 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi allows communication on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to instantly share imagery to mobile devices for direct sharing online to social networking, via email, and to cloud storage sites.
You will find a 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder that offers a bright, high-resolution, .70x magnification. This allows for easy eye-level monitoring and employs a dedicated 120 frames per second mode for smoother viewing when moving subjects are tracked. The side-opening, vari-angle 3.0" 1.03m-dot LCD touchscreen works from high, low, and front-facing angles.
The USB connection can be used to connect the A7C-R to a computer or mobile battery. This connection can also be used to charge the battery.
