Experience the pinnacle of mirrorless technology with the Sony Alpha 1 II Mirrorless Digital Camera. This cutting-edge device is designed for professional photographers seeking unparalleled performance and image quality. With a 50.1-megapixel full-frame sensor, 30fps continuous shooting, and 8K video recording capabilities, the A1 II from Sony delivers incredible results in every shot.
Its advanced autofocus system ensures precise focusing, even in low-light conditions. Whether you're capturing fast-paced action or serene landscapes, the Sony Alpha 1 II is your ultimate creative companion.
Upgraded Functions and Features
The predecessor to the latest Sony Alpha 1 II Mirrorless Digital Camera was the flagship camera in the Sony Mirrorless lineup by expertly combining high-end still and high-end video features in one camera body.
Now the Sony A1 II Mirrorless Digital Camera took a number of key features and improved on these that further benefit the hybrid image-maker.
These Include:
- AI Processing Unit
This is a key piece of technology added to the Sony A 1 II to add to the autofocus, subject detecting / tracking, speed, reliability and accuracy. This greatly increases the ability of the camera to recognise subjects, track them predict their movements, and then retain focus as they move. - Pre-Capture and Speed Boost Functions
These features in combination, make the Sony Alpha1 Mark II ideal for high-end sports, wildlife, and birding photographers as the combination of these features benefits continuous burst shooting. - 8.5-Stop IBIS
The Sony Alpha 1 II Mirrorless Digital Camera adds a notable 3 stops of image stabilisation from the predecessor. This means it is possible to use the camera in handheld orientation in noticeably dimmer lighting conditions with slower shutter speeds that open wider shooting versatility. - Video Improvements
Core video specs remain the same throughout both iterations of the Sony A1, though the A1 II adds some asked-for features, to build on the video powerhouse it already is. These include Dynamic Active Mode Stabilizer, Framing Stabilizer, and Breathing Compensation.
Sensor and Processing Improvements
The Sony A 1 Mark II improves on the already strong imaging performance of its predecessor with an upgraded BIONZ XR processing, an AI processing unit, a more powerful 8.5-stop IBIS, and the impressive 50MP stacked BSI CMOS sensor from its predecessor. The sensor and processor still afford a top 30-fps shooting rate, expandable sensitivity from ISO 50-102400, and an impressive 15-stop dynamic range. Additionally, on the speed front, the a1 II gains the Pre-Capture and Speed Boost functions that debuted on the a9 III.
You are able to shoot 30fps continuously with the electronic shutter, or 10 fps with mechanical shutter, all with AF and AE activated. To ensure you do not miss any moment, pre-capture shooting records up to 30 fps for one second prior to fully pressing the shutter.
Speed Boost allows you to vary the speed of shooting mid-burst using the C5 button.
The 5-axis in-body image stabilisation is designed to compensate for up to 8.5 stops of camera shake at the centre and 7 stops at the periphery.
In the Sony Alpha 1 II you will find a full-frame 50MP stacked BSI CMOS Sensor that mixes high resolution with speed and reduced rolling shutter found in a stacked design, ideal for meticulous and quick-working scenarios.
Smarter, Faster Autofocus and Subject Tracking
The Sony Alpha 1 II now features an AI processing unit achieving refined subject detection and tracking of humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and aeroplanes. Similar to the predecessor, the AF system still comprises of 759 points that cover about 92% of the sensor area, and support focusing down to -4 EV at f/2. You will also find it is about 30% faster at human eye detection and about 50% faster at animal eye detection. Human pose and head position can be tracked to estimate their movements to assist in keeping focus and even with other persons moving in the frame, it will still keep the target in focus.
XS and XL focus area spot sizes have been added for more versatility or you can customize AF focus areas to suit uniquely sized or shaped subjects.
Alpha's Alpha in Video Capabilities
As with the predecessor, the Sony A 1 II is ahead of its time in many ways. Keeping many core resolutions and frame rates, but refined video recording capabilities. This includes access to Dynamic Area Stabilisations and timecode input with an additional adapter.
Familiar recording formats: 8K 30p with 10-bit 4:2:0 sampling and 4K 120p with 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling. When using a Super 35 recording area, 4K footage can use 5.8K oversampling for improved detail and the full-frame area offers 8.6K oversampling for the 8K footage.
The AI subject recognition system benefits the Framing Stabilizer mode, which automatically crops and recomposes the subject to remain centre in the image. Dynamic Active Mode Stabilization also helps retain accurate framing while filming, especially when recording while walking or moving.
Included S-Cinetone profile, ProRes RAW output over HDMI, and the ability to import LUTs all point to the great amount of colour control the Sony a1 II offers.
Pre-Capture and Speed Boost - Never Miss a Moment
Further key technology delivered by the Sony A1 II sensor, you will find additional features unlocking the full potential of the camera. These include:
- Pre-Capture: Within the settings menus you can set the camera to begin buffer recording images when the shutter is half-pressed (between 0.03 and 1.0 second).
- Speed Boost: With the C5 button you can set the A 1 II to while recording continuously to a faster burst up to 30 fps.
Versatile and Durable Design
Brought over from the A9III, you will find a custom C5 button on the front of the camera body. The A1 II also provides you with an enhanced grip.
In terms of memory, you will find dual card slots accepting either CFexpress Type A or SD-type memory cards. To provide you with flexible file-saving options. Both slots are rated the support UHS-II cards for faster transfer speeds.
Tru-Finder EVF and Tilting Touchscreen LCD
The Sony Alpha 1 II Mirrorless Digital Camera features a QXGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF with 9.44m-dot resolution along with 0.9x magnification that provides an exceptionally bright, clear, and detailed eye-level viewing. There is also a 120-fps option that maintains the higher resolution for a better mixture of clarity and motion fluidity.
At the back, you will find a 3.2" 2.1m-dot 4-axis multi-angle touchscreen LCD with a wide colour gamut covering the DCI-P3 space. The menu structure complements a shooter with different workflows and different setting selections for movie as well as still applications.
Enhanced Functionality and Usability
The Sony a1 II Mirrorless Digital Camera also features a voice memo function providing clearer recording with a microphone located closer to the user. They can then be converted to text using the Sony Transfer and Tagging application. IPTC metadata can be automatically added to images and up to 20 presets can be saved.
Composite Shooting Modes
Composite Shooting involves capturing multiple images and then combining them in post-production to produce image quality and resolutions not possible with just the core sensor technology.
The Sony Alpha1 Mark II offers two different options for composite shooting, these include:
- Pixel Shift Multi Shooting: Pixel Shift Multi Shooting allows you to achieve greater resolution than the 50.1MP the sensor can produce. Using sensor-shift image stabilisation, this setting shifts the sensor while taking 16 consecutive exposures to gather approximately 199MP of information for greater colour accuracy and detail the normally possible with a single exposure. Then using the Sony Imaging Software Suite you are able to merge these images together in Post-production.
- Noise Reduction: This method uses multiple images to reduce the noise in an image without sacrificing sharpness and detail. By leveraging the information of several frames, users will be able to improve the legibility of details and minimize the impact of noise without the smoothing effect common with more conventional noise reduction techniques.
