CES 2015: Nikon D5500 DSLR And New Lenses

CES 2015: Nikon has revealed the new D5500 DSLR and two updated lenses, a 300mm f/4 and 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6.

The 2015 Consumer Electronics Show officially kicks off in Las Vegas later today, but as per tradition, most major new announcements were made yesterday, or last night in South African time, before the trade show opened.

Nikon has revealed the new D5500 DSLR, as well as two new lenses, an updated FX-format 300mm f/4 telephoto prime, and an updated DX-format 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 telephoto zoom.

Nikon D5500

The Nikon D5500 replaces the D5300 and introduces a new touch-screen display, offering improved and new ways of controlling the camera, including a virtual 'joystick' for selecting focus points while looking through the optical viewfinder.

The camera also includes a new flat picture mode, which will be a welcome feature for avid videographers.

Nikon's new 300mm f/4 telephoto prime is 30% shorter and 680 gram lighter than its predecessor, thanks to a new optical design incorporating phase fresnel elements, similar to Canon's diffractive optics.
