Next week will see the opening of South African photojournalist Yazeed Kamaldien's exhibition, Yemen: Faces of the Revolution, featuring his coverage of the political uprising in Yemen earlier this year.

Political reform has very much been the story of 2011, with countries like Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and Yemen headlining the news reports. The uprising in Yemen started in February and March with the public calling for President Saleh to step down. Yazeed was there to photograph the events from the first day, right until President Saleh left the country on the 3rd of June 2011 after being injured in a bombing.

"Kamaldien’s visual peek into what the Yemen revolution looked like bears witness to the struggle of a people trapped in a world of poverty and hope. Anti-government youth protesters at the main anti-government protest site Change Square in the capital city Sana’a speak of a new Yemen where they are all equal."

Yemen: Faces of the Revolution opens on Tuesday 26 July 2011 at Alliance Française Art Gallery in Loop Street, Cape Town. The opening starts at 6 PM, and the film Destiny will be screened afterwards. Entrance is free.
